Laser Hair
Removal

Gold-standard, permanent hair reduction on the Elite iQ™ by Cynosure — the world's most intelligent dual-wavelength laser, calibrated precisely to your skin with every single session.

"Shaving and waxing are temporary. Laser is the only method that permanently disables the hair follicle itself — and the Elite iQ™ is the only device that does it safely and effectively on every skin tone."

The Technology

Elite iQ™
by Cynosure

The Elite iQ™ is the world's first Alexandrite/Nd:YAG dual-wavelength laser system — the gold standard in hair removal technology. While most clinics use a single-wavelength device, the Elite iQ™ carries two distinct laser wavelengths on the same platform, allowing your provider to select or blend the precise wavelength your skin type and hair colour require.

Its defining feature is the Skintel™ Melanin Reader — the world's only FDA-cleared, Health Canada–cleared melanin scanner. Rather than estimating your skin type by eye (an inherently imprecise and potentially unsafe practice), Skintel takes a live objective reading of your skin's actual melanin level at every session. This means your settings are never guessed — they are measured.

The result: faster, safer treatments with measurably better outcomes — for every skin tone, at every appointment.

755nm Alexandrite

Gold standard for fair-to-medium skin. Highly absorbed by melanin — maximally effective on lighter, finer hair.

1064nm Nd:YAG

The laser of choice for darker skin tones and tanned individuals. Deeper penetration, lower melanin absorption — safe on all complexions.

Skintel™ Melanin Reader

World's first FDA & Health Canada–cleared melanin reader. Takes a live skin measurement before every session — no guesswork, just precision.

19–43% More Power

The Elite iQ™ Alexandrite is 19% more powerful than its predecessor; the Nd:YAG is 43% more powerful — fewer sessions, better results.

Up to 24mm Spot Size

Larger coverage area per pulse means faster treatment times. A full back or both legs can be completed in under an hour.

Why It Matters

Not All Lasers
Are Equal

Most clinics use IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) — a broad-spectrum light device that is not a true laser. IPL scatters energy across the skin rather than targeting the follicle precisely, which is why results are inconsistent, particularly on darker skin tones or finer hair.

The Elite iQ™ uses true focused laser energy — monochromatic, coherent, and precisely calibrated — to target the melanin within each hair follicle without affecting surrounding tissue. This is the clinical gold standard endorsed by dermatologists worldwide.

Combined with Skintel™ live readings, it is the only system that adapts to the natural variation in your own skin — from your inner arm to your bikini line — in real time during a single session.

What to Expect

Your Session, Step by Step

01

Skintel™ Scan

Before the laser touches your skin, your provider runs the Skintel™ Melanin Reader across the treatment area. It takes a live, objective reading of your skin's actual pigmentation — not a visual guess. This calibrates the exact laser settings for your skin in real time.

02

Protective Eyewear

You'll be given medical-grade protective eyewear. The treatment area is cleansed and optionally a light cooling gel is applied. Your provider will discuss any concerns and confirm the zones being treated.

03

The Laser Pass

The handpiece glides over the treatment area delivering rapid, precise pulses of laser energy. Each pulse targets a cluster of follicles simultaneously. The integrated air cooling system continuously cools the skin surface, making the sensation far more comfortable than traditional laser systems.

04

Post-Treatment Care

Mild redness for 1–2 hours is normal. Treated hairs will gradually shed over 2–3 weeks — this is the follicle dying, not regrowth. SPF is applied and you're free to go. No downtime, no recovery — just smooth skin in progress.

Why Elite iQ™ Stands Apart

Safe for All Skin Tones

The Skintel™ Melanin Reader objectively calibrates every treatment — from Fitzpatrick Type I to VI — with zero guesswork.

Permanent Hair Reduction

Laser energy is absorbed by the follicle, converted to heat, and permanently disables regrowth — results shaving and waxing can never achieve.

Dual Wavelength Precision

The 755nm Alexandrite targets finer, lighter hair on fair skin. The 1064nm Nd:YAG penetrates deeper for darker skin tones and coarser hair.

Fast Sessions

Large spot sizes (up to 24mm) and high repetition rates allow full-leg or full-back treatments in a fraction of the time of older systems.

Virtually Painless

Integrated air cooling keeps the skin surface comfortable throughout — no numbing cream required for most clients.

No Downtime

Return to your day immediately. Mild redness may appear for a few hours — nothing more.

Device Comparison

Elite iQ™ vs. Soprano ICE

The Soprano ICE is the most widely used laser hair removal machine in Toronto — you'll find it in the majority of clinics and medspas across the city. It's a quality device with a well-established track record. Here's how it compares to what we use at The GlamRoom, and why we chose differently.

FeatureElite iQ™ — The GlamRoomSoprano ICE — Most Toronto Clinics
Laser Type
True dual-wavelength laser (755nm Alexandrite + 1064nm Nd:YAG)
Diode laser (810nm) using SHR (Super Hair Removal) sweeping technique
Skin Type Range
Fitzpatrick I–VI — verified objectively by Skintel™ Melanin Reader
Fitzpatrick I–VI — relies on gradual heating rather than precise calibration
Melanin Measurement
Skintel™ — world's only FDA & Health Canada–cleared live melanin reader. Objective, measured per zone.
No dedicated melanin reader. Settings adjusted by visual assessment or skin type charts.
Energy Delivery
High-energy single pulses per follicle cluster — direct thermal destruction of the follicle.
Low-energy, high-frequency sweeping passes — gradually heats the dermis to follicle-damaging temperature.
Efficacy on Fine / Light Hair
Alexandrite 755nm is highly absorbed by melanin — excellent for finer, lighter hair.
Diode 810nm has moderate melanin absorption — can struggle with very fine or light-coloured hair.
Efficacy on Coarse / Dark Hair
Both wavelengths highly effective; Nd:YAG ideal for thick, deeply rooted hair.
Effective on dark, coarse hair — its strongest use case.
Sensation
Quick warm pulses with integrated air cooling. Tolerable for most without numbing.
Designed to be virtually painless due to low-energy sweeping — often gentler on sensitive clients.
Session Speed
Large 24mm spot sizes + high rep rates — fast coverage of large areas.
Continuous sweeping motion — also efficient, particularly on large body areas.
FDA Clearance
FDA-cleared for permanent hair reduction across all Fitzpatrick types.
FDA-cleared for hair removal.
Sessions Required
Typically 6–8 sessions for 80–90% permanent reduction.
Typically 8–12 sessions — lower per-pulse energy requires more passes over the course of treatment.

The Bottom Line

The Soprano ICE is a safe, effective machine — but it uses a single diode wavelength and relies on gradual thermal build-up rather than precise follicle targeting. It performs best on dark, coarse hair. The Elite iQ™ carries two distinct true-laser wavelengths and the only FDA-cleared live melanin reader, giving our providers the clinical tools to optimise every session for every skin tone, hair type, and body zone. For clients who have had inconsistent results elsewhere — particularly those with finer hair, mixed skin tones, or tanned skin — the Elite iQ™ frequently delivers the results other machines couldn't.

Before Your Session

How to Prepare

✂️

Shave 24 Hours Before

Shave — don't wax or thread — the treatment area the day before your session. The follicle must be intact for the laser to target it. Surface hair should not be visible above the skin.

🚫

No Sun or Tanning

Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner for a minimum of 2 weeks before treatment. Tanned skin has elevated surface melanin, which increases the risk of burns or pigmentation changes.

🧴

Arrive with Clean Skin

No deodorant, lotions, creams, makeup, or perfume on the treatment area. Products can interfere with the laser or cause unexpected skin reactions.

💊

Medications & Contraindications

Inform your provider if you take Accutane (must stop 6 months prior), antibiotics (some are photosensitising), or blood thinners. Pregnancy and nursing are contraindications for laser hair removal.

🔬

Consultation First

All new clients receive a skin assessment using the Skintel™ Melanin Reader before their first session. This determines your optimal wavelength, fluence, and pulse settings — individualised to your actual skin, not a guess.

After Your Session

Aftercare & Safety

SPF Every Day

Apply SPF 30 or higher to any treated areas exposed to daylight for at least 2 weeks post-session. The skin is more photosensitive after laser, and unprotected sun exposure can cause temporary hyperpigmentation.

Avoid Heat for 24 Hours

Skip hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and intense workouts for 24 hours after your session. Heat promotes inflammation in already-sensitised tissue.

Let Hairs Shed Naturally

Over the 2–3 weeks following treatment, you'll notice treated hairs gradually pushing out of the skin and falling away. This is the follicle dying — not regrowth. Do not wax or thread; shaving between sessions is fine.

What's Normal vs. Not

Mild redness and slight swelling around the follicles for 1–4 hours post-treatment is completely normal. Blistering, prolonged redness beyond 24 hours, or any unusual skin changes should be reported to your provider immediately.

Who Should Not Have Laser

  • Pregnant or nursing clients
  • Active skin infections or open wounds in the treatment area
  • Recent use of Accutane (isotretinoin) within 6 months
  • Certain photosensitising medications (discuss with your provider)
  • Very recent tanning or sunburn in the treatment zone
