Radiesse
Immediate + Lasting
Radiesse is a biocompatible calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microsphere suspension that works on two fronts: immediate volumisation from the gel carrier, plus long-term collagen stimulation from the microspheres as your body gradually reabsorbs them over 12–18 months. The result is a unique "dual-action" filler that provides instant lift while also building structural collagen.
Mechanism
Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel. The gel provides immediate support; the microspheres remain as a biostimulating scaffold that encourages fibroblast activity and new collagen synthesis.

The Procedure, Step by Step
Consultation & Assessment
Your practitioner evaluates facial anatomy, volume loss patterns, and skin quality to determine the ideal biostimulator (Radiesse for immediate results, Sculptra for gradual enhancement) and injection sites.
Cleansing & Marking
The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed. Key injection zones are marked with a surgical pen.
Topical Numbing
A topical anesthetic (sometimes with nitrous oxide for comfort) is applied for 10–15 minutes. Some practitioners also use a dental block for the lower face.
Product Reconstitution (Sculptra Only)
If using Sculptra, the powder is reconstituted with sterile water 24 hours before injection (requires pre-planning).
Injection Technique
Using either linear threading, fanning, or depot injection techniques, the biostimulator is placed at the optimal depth — deeper for Radiesse, flexible for Sculptra. Multiple passes ensure even distribution.
Massage & Molding (Critical)
This step is essential for Sculptra results. The practitioner massages the injection sites immediately and the client performs self-massage at home for 5 days post-injection. Poor massage = poor results.
Post-Injection Care
Ice is applied to minimise swelling. Client receives comprehensive aftercare instructions including massage protocol, activity restrictions, and timeline for results.
Post-Treatment Care
First 24 Hours
- Avoid touching or rubbing treated areas
- Use ice on and off (15 min on, 15 min off) to reduce swelling
- Sleep elevated on 2–3 pillows
- Avoid alcohol, NSAIDs, and blood thinners
Days 2–5 (Critical for Sculptra)
- Massage treated areas vigorously, 2–3 times daily for 5 minutes each session
- Continue ice if swelling persists
- Avoid intense exercise, saunas, and heat
- No heavy lifting or bending over
- Avoid dental work for 2 weeks
Days 6–14
- Continue light massage if recommended by your provider
- Apply SPF 50+ daily
- Avoid exfoliating treatments and retinoids for 1 week
- Avoid other injectables or lasers for 2 weeks
- Results will begin developing (more apparent with Radiesse)
Weeks 2–12
- For Radiesse: results are visible by week 2; peak at 12 weeks
- For Sculptra: gradual collagen building; peak results at 12 weeks
- Attend follow-up appointments as scheduled
- Plan next session if needed (Sculptra series)
